The Gamma Awards 2010

The Magazine Association of the Southeast had their 2010 conference and awards at The W Hotel Midtown. Congrats to Garden & Gun, the big winner of this year's Gamma AwardsStephanie Davis with Skirt Magazine, this year's president, did a wonderful job realizing the theme of a Media Circus. We helped by providing circus colors from our LED uplights. We also provided the ultra bright projectors for the all- glass Altitude Room, and other audio visual equipment and technical support for all the breakout sessions.

A special thanks to Desiree C. Scales from Bella Web Design for presenting. She imparted some incredibly useful knowledge on SEO and web site creation.

Instant Megachurch!

When the RCCG North American Conference suddenly lost its venue in Baltimore, and decided to move it to Atlanta, there was little time to react. With approximately 6,000 people in attendance, Georgia's World Congress Center was one of the only Convention Centers able to accommodate this large of an event. They called us on Monday and by Friday we were moving into the Thomas Murphy Ballroom with 3-trucks loaded with gear.

We provided backline for two bands, which included a Hammond B3, 2-Leslie Speakers, Fender Amplifiers, GK Bass Rig, DIGI 002, Korg Triton, Yamaha Motif, Roland Fantom X7, 7 Piece Drum set, and more.

The musical acts were incredibly good and incorporated talking drum, congas, saxophone, trumpet, a 60 person choir, and several other instruments. Good thing we had the Yamaha M7CL 56 input mixing console for the job. That along with the Vertec Line Array Sound System, our audio was well managed and loud and clear.

From the video angle we were mixing 4-HD cameras with jibs onto (2) 15'x20' screens rigged on either side of the ballroom with long throw projection from the balconies.

Our stage was set with white pipe and drape for splashing color from LEDs and MAC 2.5k moving lights. With also used custom designed light pillars to reinforce the regal theme of the event, "King of Kings".

Georgia Technology Summit 2010!

Many thanks to all our friends at T.A.G. for having us back. Last year was great, but this year we really raised the bar on our level of service. We started a few months ago working on graphic design for their logo. Once that was accomplished, we were able to start the production so that all the elements would work together. Several videos were produced with custom 3d animation and text. We utilized time-elapse video to help drive their message of "Innovation: Economic Transformation".

The stage design borrowed elements from our graphics to produce a modern setting for the presentations on innovation and technology. This year we implemented a smaller screen above the stage to help bring more recognition to the sponsors. We feel that's important, because without them, there wouldn't be an event.
Congratulations to all the award winners, and to Ken Byers, for his induction into the Georgia Technology Hall of Fame.
Be sure to take a look at the video below that served as the introduction to the event.

PyCon 2010

PyCon 2010 was nothing short of amazing. Thousands of people who share a common interest of something as arcane as the Python programming language gathered in one space. The audience was so diverse with people from all over the world getting passionate about what they do. We were surrounded by some extremely talented people!

From a logistics perspective, we were not without challenges. The Centennial Ballroom is Atlanta's largest with the ability to separate into four sections. We coordinated multiple transitions from four sections (with independent sound and video) to one open room in 20 minutes or less. In some cases, we made the transitions in five minutes. This kept us on our toes to say the least. All the transitions went smoothly. It took four 14ft screens and four short-throw rear projectors, Imag, two confidence monitors, 150ft of pipe & drape, LED uplights, sixteen S4 Leko lights from the balconies, two Folsom data/video switchers, six SVGA distribution amplifiers, and ten powered speakers to make it work. Whew! And I didn't even mention the electricity used to power 2,000 laptops!

PyCon volunteers get a great deal of credit. These guys donated lots of their time. Some even traveled from overseas to help record sessions in this conference. They captured this video with an application they developed specifically for this event. It acts as a virtual video mixer simultaneously capturing in real-time the presentation and the video of the speaker. The ballroom was perfect for video recording with balconies on both sides of the room. The pipe & drape was purposely set low so their cameras could get crowd shots. The multi-camera functionality is another unique aspect of the software. Their work can be seen on http://pycon.blip.tv/

See you next year!
