Atlanta Pro AV @ The CNN Center

The Atrium at The Omni Hotel @ CNN Center is a challenging space if you don't know the pitfalls. The room has skylights that lets the sun right in on your screen if you're not careful. Knowing the programs hours in relation to the forecast and positions of the sun are crucial. Beyond that, you need a high-lumen projector that can push through the light. We successfully navigated these pitfalls and created what we think was a fantastic event for our client. With executives from some of the leading companies in the world, our clients are relieved to know we understand the room and had the gear necessary to make it happen. If it's in Atlanta, we've most likely been there and know the logistical decisions that are critical to having a successful event.

East Lake Foundation & First Tee of East Lake

Stage Set for "Georgia The Band"

We are proud to have played a part in the September 12th charity auction organized by the First Tee of East Lake at the East Lake Golf Club. The money raised goes to the East Lake Foundation, a non-profit organization credited for rescuing the local neighborhood from urban decay. They helped restore East Lake's housing market from an average selling price of $45,000 to $280,000+. They also brought in affordable housing and created the award-winning Drew Charter School.
Tom Cousins - Founder of East Lake Foundation

Some of the items on the auction block - A pair of Muhammad Ali's boxing gloves, a signed Beatles poster, and a trip to play golf with legends Jack Nicklaus and Arnie Palmer. WOW!!!

The auction was attended by numerous celebrities that help contribute to the organization including: Bill Murray, Matt Kuchar, Jerome Bettis, Jeffery Donovan, Mike Mills, Heath Slocum, and Rashid Ahmad, just to name a few.

The night was electric, and the spirit of giving was present! We wish the East Lake Foundation and The First Tee of East Lake great success in their upcoming endeavors!

Evo saves the day

Over the weekend one of our events required approximately 50 video to be streamed from 2-laptops. Since the venue's IT department doesn't work on weekends, we were in a tight spot once we discovered their internet was down. Despite being 30 miles outside of Atlanta, we were able to receive 4G from one of our new Sprint Evo phones. The Evo has the ability of being an internet hotspot for up to 8 wireless devices over a secure network. The speed was fast enough to stream all the videos without any problem.

Many thanks to our Evo for saving the day!

Facial Aesthetics

The Westin Hotel in Buckhead recently hosted the annual conference on facial aesthetics. For a week, surgeons shared the most modern techniques in surgery that can turn any well-aged individual into a reasonable facsimile of Brad Pitt or Angelina Jolie. Atlanta Pro AV offered the audio visual support, including image magnification, which gave attendees a close-up seat to the live surgical demonstrations. Even the ones in the back-rows could see every incision.

Listening Party for EMI artist Katy Perry

I believe it was just about a week after her closed, highly guarded listening party at Whiskey Park (W Hotel Midtown) when Katy Perry's latest single hit #1 on the pop chart. Atlanta Pro AV was enlisted by EMI to make sure the sound was clear and thumping for her new record "Teenage Dream". The record was played in it's entirety for a welcoming crowd of VIPs of the music industry. Katy delighted in the sound and danced to many of her new tracks that are soon to become hits once the record comes out in August.

Many thanks to EMI and Katy Perry for having Atlanta Pro AV in the mix.

B2B with Daivd Ratciffe

President & CEO of Southern Company (Ga. Power, Alabama Power, etc.) David Ratcliffe had a the crowd rolling during his presentation for B2B Magazine at Maggiano's Buckhead this past Thursday. Southern Company is one of America's largest producers of electricity.

He commented on the absurdity of the idea of a trillion dollars- "nobody realizes what the easy monthly payment is on a trillion dollars". He took the time to thank us for the "great job". It's clear that nice guys can finish 1st.

Asian-American Heritage Foundation

The Asian American Heritage Foundation held their annual Gala at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in downtown Atlanta. There were several performances, including the traditional red lantern dance, and a violin and chorus ensemble. All the performers were children, and they deserved every bit of the applause they received for their talents. The elaborate costumes were gorgeous and remarkably detailed.

The night was filled with delights of Asian culture at every turn. Thanks to the AAHF for having us handle the video, sound, and lighting for their event.

Lupus Walk at Piedmont Park

It was a perfect day in the park for the Lupus Walk. We had the best time being a sponsor and advocating for such a great cause. There was a tremendous turnout and a great showing of support for a disease that has eluded and confused the medical profession since it's inception. There hasn't been a new drug for Lupus in 51 years and 55,000 Georgians are afflicted.

We were happy to donate the sound to help make all the voices heard that carried such an urgent message. Many thanks to V103 FM and DJ G-Mack for keeping everybody dancing and making the most of our sound system.

Chapter President Maria Myler deserves a great credit for organizing such a fantastic event that raised a great deal money for the Lupus Foundation.

Our friend John Levinson with The Atlanta Journal-Constitution (AJC) was the one who recommended us to Maria. Thanks John!

The Gamma Awards 2010

The Magazine Association of the Southeast had their 2010 conference and awards at The W Hotel Midtown. Congrats to Garden & Gun, the big winner of this year's Gamma AwardsStephanie Davis with Skirt Magazine, this year's president, did a wonderful job realizing the theme of a Media Circus. We helped by providing circus colors from our LED uplights. We also provided the ultra bright projectors for the all- glass Altitude Room, and other audio visual equipment and technical support for all the breakout sessions.

A special thanks to Desiree C. Scales from Bella Web Design for presenting. She imparted some incredibly useful knowledge on SEO and web site creation.

Instant Megachurch!

When the RCCG North American Conference suddenly lost its venue in Baltimore, and decided to move it to Atlanta, there was little time to react. With approximately 6,000 people in attendance, Georgia's World Congress Center was one of the only Convention Centers able to accommodate this large of an event. They called us on Monday and by Friday we were moving into the Thomas Murphy Ballroom with 3-trucks loaded with gear.

We provided backline for two bands, which included a Hammond B3, 2-Leslie Speakers, Fender Amplifiers, GK Bass Rig, DIGI 002, Korg Triton, Yamaha Motif, Roland Fantom X7, 7 Piece Drum set, and more.

The musical acts were incredibly good and incorporated talking drum, congas, saxophone, trumpet, a 60 person choir, and several other instruments. Good thing we had the Yamaha M7CL 56 input mixing console for the job. That along with the Vertec Line Array Sound System, our audio was well managed and loud and clear.

From the video angle we were mixing 4-HD cameras with jibs onto (2) 15'x20' screens rigged on either side of the ballroom with long throw projection from the balconies.

Our stage was set with white pipe and drape for splashing color from LEDs and MAC 2.5k moving lights. With also used custom designed light pillars to reinforce the regal theme of the event, "King of Kings".

Georgia Technology Summit 2010!

Many thanks to all our friends at T.A.G. for having us back. Last year was great, but this year we really raised the bar on our level of service. We started a few months ago working on graphic design for their logo. Once that was accomplished, we were able to start the production so that all the elements would work together. Several videos were produced with custom 3d animation and text. We utilized time-elapse video to help drive their message of "Innovation: Economic Transformation".

The stage design borrowed elements from our graphics to produce a modern setting for the presentations on innovation and technology. This year we implemented a smaller screen above the stage to help bring more recognition to the sponsors. We feel that's important, because without them, there wouldn't be an event.
Congratulations to all the award winners, and to Ken Byers, for his induction into the Georgia Technology Hall of Fame.
Be sure to take a look at the video below that served as the introduction to the event.

PyCon 2010

PyCon 2010 was nothing short of amazing. Thousands of people who share a common interest of something as arcane as the Python programming language gathered in one space. The audience was so diverse with people from all over the world getting passionate about what they do. We were surrounded by some extremely talented people!

From a logistics perspective, we were not without challenges. The Centennial Ballroom is Atlanta's largest with the ability to separate into four sections. We coordinated multiple transitions from four sections (with independent sound and video) to one open room in 20 minutes or less. In some cases, we made the transitions in five minutes. This kept us on our toes to say the least. All the transitions went smoothly. It took four 14ft screens and four short-throw rear projectors, Imag, two confidence monitors, 150ft of pipe & drape, LED uplights, sixteen S4 Leko lights from the balconies, two Folsom data/video switchers, six SVGA distribution amplifiers, and ten powered speakers to make it work. Whew! And I didn't even mention the electricity used to power 2,000 laptops!

PyCon volunteers get a great deal of credit. These guys donated lots of their time. Some even traveled from overseas to help record sessions in this conference. They captured this video with an application they developed specifically for this event. It acts as a virtual video mixer simultaneously capturing in real-time the presentation and the video of the speaker. The ballroom was perfect for video recording with balconies on both sides of the room. The pipe & drape was purposely set low so their cameras could get crowd shots. The multi-camera functionality is another unique aspect of the software. Their work can be seen on http://pycon.blip.tv/

See you next year!

Lighting up Chateau Elan!

Many thanks to all the preparation and careful planning that went into this spectacular event. Chateau Elan is a gorgeous meeting destination that has championship golf and is also a full production winery. The vineyard is amazing and as picturesque as anywhere I've ever been.

It took a lot of lights for the dancers and the band set on opposite sides of the equestrian center. Using LEDs made for small power requirements that conserved a ton of energy. It couldn't all be LEDs, but we used as many as we could for that reason.

The Princess and The Frog

We played our small part in helping Disney launch their first animated movie in years. The Pixar computerized anaimation is great, but there is something to be said for the hand-drawn animation that made Disney a household name. We provided full color glass gobos with projection for their promotional efforts at a recent Blog conference in Atlanta at The W Hotel Midtown. We also provided a few plasmas to debut their Wii game based on the movie.
